Updated Views in the Biology and Genetics of Drug Addiction 

 

In the last 20 years, scientific research has improve our knowledge about the biological, genetic and sociocultural determinants of the drug addiction phenomena.This Webinar intends to review the state of the art in addiction research, putting emphasis in translational research.

Learner Outcomes. By the end of this learning session, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the biological systems involved with the development of drug addiction
2. Describe the relationship between genetics and drug addiction physiophatology
3. Understand the interrelation between genes and environment and its implications in addiction

Biography

I have a Bachelor degree in Psychology, and studied a Master in Science in Cell and Molecular Physiology. I’ve been professor of Psychology and Human Nutrition from the Health Sciences Faculty in the UNITEC. Actually I’m a researcher in drug addiction at Institute for Prevention and Treatment of Addictions (Instituto para la Atención y Prevención de las Adicciones) in México City. Actual research are collaborative with the National Neurology and Neurosurgery Institute (Instituto Nacional de Neurología y Neurocirugía), National Institute of Psychiatry (Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatria), and others.
